I saw this art piece over the summer and at the time, did not like it: it felt like these meme images were being placed in a gallery context without being particularly novel or interesting in their own right. In my opinion, this is often a flaw of contemporary art that pulls from online visual cultures. However, since then, I have found de Roover’s reference to very specific lesbian online spaces to be at least thought-provoking, when given this much space and room for consideration.
